How to -- Backup and Restore Database
For Online versions, Duoserve performs automatic backups of your database at regular intervals.

For Desktop versions, you need to perform backups of your data in case of a disaster (e.g. hardware failure, virus/malware, or (un)intentional deletion of data through the software).  These backups should be performed as often as you deem necessary.

To Perform a Backup in a Desktop Version:
1. Go to the Backup form (usually found under the 'Administrator' tab on client computers or in the Admin Console/Server Manager (depending on the version you have) on the server computer -- found in the Start menu)
2. If performing the backup on the Server machine, choose a local path where the backup file will be created; If performing the backup from a client computer, choose a path on the Server computer that you know exists (e.g. c:\backup).
3. Name the backup file either by clicking the '...' button and inputting the name in the 'File Name' text box or by entering the name in the 'Backup File' text box.
4. Click on the 'Perform Backup' button
5. If the backup file was successfully created, you should see a status bar on the bottom of the form stating 'Successfully backed up 'softwarename' database on 'yourserver'
6. Locate the file you have backed up and save it onto a disk or an external device (this depends on how you perform your backups for other documents)

To Perform a Restore in a Desktop Version:
1. In order to restore a previously backed up file, you will need to be at the Server computer directly.  You cannot perform a restore from a client computer other than the Server.
2. Go to the Restore form (found in the Admin Console or Server Manager (depending on the version you have) on the server computer -- found in the Start menu)
3. Click on the '...' button and select the file that you have previously backed up or manually enter the path where the backup file is located.
4. Click on the 'Perform Restore' button
5. If the backup file was successfully restored, you should see a status bar on the bottom of the form stating 'Successfully restored 'softwarename' database on 'yourserver'
6. Connect to the Server from any Client machine and verify that your data corresponds to the one from the file you have restored.
